Most of this section of charters relates to the priory's property in London. Several documents relate to Whittington College. DCc-ChAnt/L/2B relates to the election of Mgr Gilbert Segrave as bishop of London in 1313 and DCc-ChAnt/L/20 concerns a dispute between the cathedral priory and Barking Abbey. DCc/Register/E, ff353r-358v, contains 29 charters for London and there are 121 charters for London in DCc/Register/B, ff233v-286r, including several copies of exemplifications of possessory assizes. Two charters are registered in the archbishops' charters sections of the cartularies and one in in the royal charters section. There are no original charters for a significant number of these registered versions.

Most of this section relates to the cathedral priory's dispute with Arcbishop Hubert Walter about his attempt to revive Archbishop Baldwin's plan for establishing a secular college at Lambeth. For an account of this dispute, see C R Cheney, Hubert Walter (London, 1967), pp137-157. DCc-ChAnt/L/129A relates to the dispute between the cathedral priory and Archbishop Edmund of Abingdon concerning the election of Roger de la Lee as prior. DCc-ChAnt/L/138A is a copy of canons issued by Archbishop Anselm and Archbishop Boniface of Savoy. DCc/Register/E, ff63r-63v, and DCc/Register/A, ff174r-174v, each contain 1 charter relating to Lambeth, registered in the compositions section.
CCA-DCc-ChAnt/L/142-250
This section of charters relates to Lichfield Cathedral and in particular to the estates of the vicars choral. The documents have no obvious connection with Canterbury and may only have come here as strays in the 1660s when the cathedral's archives were returned after the Restoration.

This section of charters relates to the manor of Loose but includes many documents for the manors of East Farleigh and West Farleigh, with which it was closely linked. Loose lies just south of Maidstone and East Farleigh and West Farleigh lie in the Medway valley, just to the west of Maidstone. The manors of West Farleigh and Teston were granted to the priory by Queen Eleanor in 1290 (see DCc-ChAnt/L/299). DCc-ChAnt/F/150 also relates to Farleigh. DCc/Register/E, ff312v-323r, contains 69 charters for the manors of Loose, East Farleigh and West Farleigh and Teston and there are 100 charters for Loose, East Farleigh, West Farleigh and Teston in DCc/Register/D, ff381v-405v. There are no original charters for a significant number of these registered versions.
CCA-DCc-ChAnt/L/312-352
This section of charters relates to Langdon, which may be East Langdon or West Langdon near Dover, but is seems more likely to be South Langdon in Eythorne parish, which appears to have been part of the priory's manor of Adisham. Eythorne is 6½ miles north-north-west of Dover. DCc/Register/E, ff212r-217v, contains 37 charters for Langdon and there are 39 charters for Langdon in DCc/Register/C, ff67r-73r.

This section of charters relates to the manor of Leysdown, situated on the east end of the Isle of Sheppey, which lies off the north Kent coast. DCc/Register/E, ff327r-327v, contains 7 charters for Leysdown and there are 13 charters relating to Leysdown in DCc/Register/D, ff423v-424v. The Leysdown charters are registered as no 9 onwards in the section of charters relating to the manor of Barksore in both registers, but there is also a separate section of Leysdown charters in DCc/Register/D.

This section of charters relates to the manor of Lawling in Essex which lies on the flat hinterland of eastern Essex, just north-east of Latchingdon, and is 5½ miles north-west of Burnham. The manor also included lands at Danbury, 5½ miles east of Chelmsford. DCc/Register/E, ff378r-378v, contains 5 charters for Lawling and there are 21 charters for Lawling in DCc/Register/B, ff97v-108v. There are no original charters for a significant number of these registered versions.
CCA-DCc-ChAnt/L/372-412
These documents relate to various places beginning with L, including Lydden [in Worth, Kent], Leighton Buzzard [Bedfordshire] and Llandaff [Glamorgan]. The Llandaff documents probably came to Canterbury in the 1660s as strays from the archive of Llandaff Cathedral. This section also contains additional documents relating to the election of Gilbert Segrave as bishop of London and a number of documents from Leeds Priory [Kent], including a late 15th century account book (DCc-ChAnt/L/405). DCc-ChAnt/L/406-412 have not previously been catalogued. |
