DescriptionFrom: Bartholomew, archdeacon of Amiens ('Ambian'') [Somme, France], papal chaplain, auditor of contradictory letters

'Dominus' Robert [of Canterbury], subprior and proctor of Dover Priory, obtained papal letters from Pope Gregory X, dated 9 Aug 1272 at Orvieto [Treni, Italy], addressed to the subprior and convent of Dover Priory (recited), which confirmed all liberties and immunities previous popes had granted to the priory.
Philip de pomonte and James de Trebis, proctors of the prior and convent of Canterbury Cathedral Priory and its officers, opposed these letters, but withdrew their objection on condition that nothing should happen to prejudice the priory's rights as a result of this confirmation. Robert agreed to this.
Also recites Dover Priory's appointment of Robert as its proctor to obtain the letters from Gregory X, dated 13 Dec 1271 in the chapter house of Dover Priory.
Given at Orvieto [Treni, Italy].

Endorsed with description in late 13th cent hand.
