The writer has received the addressee's instructions to tax his tenants of Doccombe. The tenants do not agree to it because the addressee had released them from taxes, except taxes on their own goods and chattels, and promised that such a tax should not exceed 22s. The custom of the county, however, is that all goods should be assessed where they are found, whoever they belong to, and the assessment of the goods in the tenants' keeping exceeds 50s.
