DescriptionThe first missionary studentship association was founded in 1854 in the diocese of Exeter. Under the wardenship of Dr Bailey, local secretaries of these organisations were invited every four years to St Augustine's College for a conference. In 1877 a federation of these associations was formed. The function of the associations was to seek out suitable candidates for missionary training and the provide financial support.
The rules for the missionary studentship association in the Diocese of Canterbury were adopted in 1883. The Canterbury Diocesan (St Augustine's) Missionary Studentship Association was succeeded by the St Augustine's College Association in 1948.
The Missionary Union of St Augustine was founded in 1859 for supporting St Augustine's College and any other missionary college.
