TitleHenry Martyn Letters
Date1807
DescriptionCorrespondence between Henry Martyn (1781-1812) and Daniel Corrie (1777-1837), later Bishop of Madras. Both were missionaries active in India in the early 19th century. Recently arrived there, they met as guests of David Brown in Calcutta in September 1806 and struck up a long-lasting friendship. These letters are from Martyn to Corrie and date from 1807 during which time Corrie held various posts in northern India and Martyn was employed in Dinapore. Letters from Martyn to Corrie 1807-1812, and other of their letters and papers, are in the Church Missionary Society Archive in the Special Collections Department of Birmingham University Library. It is unclear how these particular letters came to be associated with St Augustine's College. The file includes some transcripts.
