TitleMANUSCRIPT MAPS
Date18th century
DescriptionMany of these are sea charts (as opposed to land maps). Some give desciptions of geography and navigation conditions.

Conventionally, rocks are shown as Xs, and sounding depths given. The charts are oriented to suit the paper, with north indicated as appropriate. The compass points enabled mariners to take bearings between different points on the coast. Some of these charts have a strong linen backing, and may well have been taken out to the places they represent.
