AdminHistory | This collection mainly comprises records of the priory, many being records of its sede vacante administration of the archbishop's spiritualities. There are also a number of deeds of the fifteenth to seventeenth centuries for places in Kent. These formerly belonged to and were perhaps collected by Mr Hayward of Canterbury in the eighteenth century. Certainly they bear no numberings or endorsements of Norris or Bunce, and so they would probably have left the custody of the dean and chapter before their time., 1150-1670 By the early nineteenth century, this collection had become part of a larger group of deeds for Devon and Middlesex in the possession of John Springett Harvey, barrister, of the Middle Temple. From him they ultimately passed to Dr Charles Lancelot Shadwell, sometime Provost of Oriel College, Oxford. These records were presented to the Dean and Chapter Library in 1924 by Lionel Lancelot Shadwell and Walter Harvey Lancelot Shadwell, being then listed, transcribed, and indexed by the latter (MS Cat 81).
