DescriptionThis series includes plans for work on buildings in the precincts. There are some problems in defining a building as being in the precincts rather than part of the cathedral church (hence DCc/CATH) or in the city of Canterbury (hence DCc/CANT). Starrs House is an example of a house which was numbered 14E The Precincts as well as 10 Burgate. The library buildings have been considered as parts of the precincts for the purposes of this catalogue, but they could also be considered parts of the cathedral church.
Many buildings in the precincts are referred to here using the present numbering scheme. This scheme has superseded various other schemes used in the past. For the present numbering scheme see DCc/PLANS/PREC 300. House numbers are used for some buildings which are more often known by other names, for example the Deanery (20 The Precincts) or Cathedral House (11 The Precincts).
