DescriptionWriter: Burvill, James, Six Preacher of Canterbury Cathedral.
Addressee: Turner, Thomas, dean of Canterbury Cathedral & Peirce, Thomas, prebendary of Canterbury Cathedral & Casaubon, Meric, prebendary of Canterbury Cathedral & Moulin, Peter du, jr, prebendary of Canterbury Cathedral|: Belke, William, prebendary of Canterbury Cathedral & Aucher, John, prebendary of Canterbury Cathedral & Barker, William, prebendary of Canterbury Cathedral & Castilion, John, prebendary of Canterbury Cathedral|: Hardres, Peter, prebendary of Canterbury Cathedral & Aldey, Edward, prebendary of Canterbury Cathedral

Accompanying a petition which has already been sent to Lambeth. Asking that cathedral officers look after the 'licentious houses' which are disorderly during services and sermons. Also, that arrests of persons within the liberty be regulated, with the dean issuing licences.
Also, he suffered during the Commonwealth for defending the Church from the pulpit against another. Asking for his son, a King's Scholar, to be considered for an exhibition for Oxford. James Burvill went to Queen's College, Cambridge in 1669. [Burvill's reinstatement in 1661and Barker's dates as prebendary to 1669 give the covering span; Burvill was attending the King's School in Christmas 1668 and so the date of this document is likely to be 1667-8.
