William Somner was the cathedral auditor. Left orphaned, petitioners' great-uncle, John Somner, brother of William, left them in his will certain houses in the precincts. Mr Halden, now married to the widow of George Somner, son of John, has a lease of the houses and is trying to deprive the children of them. Asks for the renewal of the leases to be obstructed. [This must be dated after the children's widowed mother, Ann, made her will, dated 22 Dec 1679, proved 24 Jan 1679 (PRC 32/543/393). We are grateful to Gillian Rickard for this information.] |
