TitleCanterbury Psalter
Date2003
Descriptionbelonging to Duncan Perkins, senior lay clerk, who entered the choir in 1974, sang permanently from 1975, and died still in service at the age of 69 in August 2014. Duncan annotated the volume noting the month and year each Psalm was performed and the precise time it took. Other annotations used are: MV - men's voices; MV unacc - men's voices unaccompanied; plain/PS - plainsong; AW - Allan Wicks; MH - Michael Hams; TN - Tim Noon; MM - Matthew Martin; RP - Robert Patterson; DF - David Flood; AP - Andrew Parnell; BF - Barry Ferguson; TU - Tim Uglow; AB - Andrew Bryden; DJP - Duncan Perkins; IT - Ian Thompson and PG - Peter Giles. Note: The chants were typeset by organ scholar Tom Williamson in the late 1990s but the A4 portrait format proved too bulky and unwieldy to use. They were re-set in a custom wide A5 format by Toby Huitson while working David Flood's PA from 1999-2004 as a special project. Duncan Perkins assisted with proofreading and made several suggestions about chants and keys. This, the final version, was finished in 2003 and printed and bound in-house. Presumably, the tempos of past colleagues was entered from a previous copy.

His copy of the psalter, to which he quite often would not need to refer, maintained the records of the fastest and slowest performances and the context in which they had been, letting us know when one of us had broken a record.
