DescriptionBass part-book arranged in tête-bêche binding containing Services and Full Anthems, and, reversing the volume, Verse Anthems. The personal book of John Gostling (c1650-1733), bass soloist and Minor Canon of Canterbury Cathedral (ownership mark at the top of Service side, p. 1), who copied MS between 1714 and 1725. Later additions (Verse Anthem Side, pp. 80-128) made during the early nineteenth century, possibly during term of Highmore Skeats as Cathedral Organist (1803-1831).

Original page numbering retained: Service side consisting of Services (pp. 1-175) followed by Full Anthems, with page numbers beginning again from p. 1 (pp. 1-76); Anthem side consisting of Verse Anthems (pp. 1-128).

Robert Ford suggests the principal copyists were John Gostling, William Raylton, Samuel Porter, Tempus Porter and Highmore Skeats.
