Description | This is the first, and thinnest, of three folio sized volumes into which J.B. Sheppard pasted an assorted collection of documents, retrieved from cathedral outhouses in the later nineteenth century. 'A' was originally a rate book of some form. The method of attachment means that the endorsements, if any, are largely inaccessible and the glue used has in some cases caused some deterioration. To enhance their legibility, ammonia sulphate was applied to some of the more faded documents, which has also not been of long term benefit to them. Sheppard calendared the documents on the page beside them. Large numbers of the original contents, mainly sede vacante material, have now been removed, with their destinations sometimes noted, and other documents have since been put in their place. There is an index at the back listing the original contents, so this is now obsolete. |
