Date1869
DescriptionWriter: Parry, Edward, bishop of Dover

The book was written by Parry during his attendance on the archbishop of Canterbury (Archibald Campbell Tait) while he was ill. He intended the book to be handed down to future archdeacons of Canterbury. ff114-117r have the procedure for enthroning an archbishop, which was later crossed through in red pencil and marked 'Obsolete'.
There is a brief history of the archdeacons of Canterbury on ff117v-120r. On f120v is a description of the occupancy of some of the prebendal houses. The archdeacons and (from 1660) their arms are listed, in reverse order on ff132v-139r. Between ff141v-142r are several loose papers, including rough minutes of a meeting between the archbishop, the dean, the bishop of Dover and several canons of c1892 and the annual receipts of the archdeaconry of Canterbury for c1769.
At the back of the book is a small envelope containing extracts taken by M Beazeley from books in the cathedral library about the ground on the site of the old dormitory. The notes were taken in 1899. There is also a printed leaflet of opinions on the 'Exemption from rating of Clerical Earned Incomes derived from Tithe Rent Charge'. The 'Church Assembly News' of May 1924 and a summary of proceedings of the Central Advisory Council of Training for the Ministry are also to be found here.
