TitleVarious documents and letters
Date15th century-17th century
DescriptionContains the following five manuscripts stitched into a paper cover:
(1.) A 15th century copy on vellum of Archbishop Richards' charter granting £20 rent out of the fruits of the church of Reculver to the Hospitals of Harbledown and Northgate.
(2.) Part of an undated letter perhaps addressed to Dean Bargrave (1625-1643). The writer says, "I have been twice before the committee, and for the civility received there have no reason of complaint ... what end the great affairs of the Kingdom will have is yet uncertain but strong argument we have to believe that peace will follow, the prosecutors of it being ingeniously diligent to perfect the work so happily begun".
(3.) A letter from James Hugessen to Honoria Jefferay of Canterbury. Asks the lady to inform her brother, and the other prebendaries that the reason why he did not pay his corn-rent of twenty quarters for the parsonage of Birchington was because he could not find out who was authorised to receive it, and that the corn had since been seized by the sequestrators. Dated at Lynsted April 26, 1644.
(4.) A letter (much defaced) from some officer of state to the Dean and Chapter requesting that Mr. Darrel, one of the prebendaries, might be absent as he was of the Queen's Chaplains, and yet receive his dividend at the audit. Dated at Hampton Court November 18, 1567.
(5.) Official copy of a decree in the Ecclesiastical Court of Canterbury, of an award in a tithe case relating to the parish of Minster in the Isle of Thanet, (Clerke v. Allen).
