Description | A folio paper book containing the names of the tenants, with their services and customs, of the Manors of Wingham, Reculver, Westgate (Canterbury), Maidstone, Gillingham, Grain, Teynham, Boughton [under Blean], Hernhill, Graveney, Charing, Aldington, Lyminge, Petham, Bishopsbourne, Otford, Wrotham, Northfleet, Bexley, Pagham, Charlton, Nyetimber, Slindon, Tangmere, 'Louenton', Tarring, South Malling, Lambeth and Tring. A note at the foot of the fifth leaf from the end states that the Abbot of Westminster never owned the ferry at Lambhith, but only the rent of one noble a year for the landing place because "the Thames from Westminster to Tutthill is the common royal way from Greenwich through Lambheth to Windsor, and from Windsor to Greenwich". Later copy of a survey commissioned by Archbishop Pecham in 1283-5.
** Note: the pencil foliation at the top and bottom of each recto diverges from f47r and the top number is one out by one for the remainder of the volume. The number at the foot of the page appears to correspond correctly with the printed edition ** |
