Description | Roger de St. Elphege. Liber Sermonum et collectio de multis. Foliated. Vellum leaves, double columns of 46 lines to the page, ruled with plummet. This seems to have been a sort of commonplace book kept by Roger de St. Elphege who was prior of Christ Church 1258-1263; it is No. 577 in Eastry's Catalogue where it is described as Liber Sermonum cum notabilibus sacre Scripture (see James, Ancient Libraries, pp. 68 and 509). Many of the sermons are by Thomas de Cobham (or Chabbeham) who was subdean of Salisbury 1214-1230. Described in Kerr, Medieval Libraries, p278. |
