Description | Heraldry. A folio book of 150 leaves containing a number of heraldic coats of arms emblazoned, amongst which are (1.) `The names and arms of the principal captains ... that were with the victorious prince Edward III at the siege of Calais, 1346.' (2.) `An account of the South fleet and North fleet, and the Ships sent from Bayon, Spayne, Ireland, Flanders, Gelderland.' (3.) Arms and titles of noblemen ... from William the Conqueror to Elizabeth, emblazoned in colours. (4.) `The arms and names of the noblemen of England as I saw them in my lord Treasorer's gallerie at Theobalds 22 ffebruary 1581, and according as they take their place in the Parliament house.' (5.) `An account of the precedency of the nobility in several processions of Queen Elizabeth and King James.' (6.) An account of the precedency of the nobility by Jasper Duke of Bedford. From a note on the fly-leaf it would appear that the book was compiled by John Philipot, Somerset Herald (d. 1645), and that it came to Christ Church through William Kingsley. (See No. 3, above.) |
