DescriptionGrosseteste, Robert, (Bishop of Lincoln). Diversi Tractatus poenitentiae in unum redactum secundum Robertum grossi; Statutes of Archbishop Boniface. Summa de Penitentie casibus of Tho. Cobham.
On the inside of the parchment cover is the following inscription:- `liber m. Willi de Blankpayn Rectoris de Oreseta'. William Blankpeyn, a Canon of Wingham College, was instituted to the rectory of Ickham on September 15, 1386. In 1461 the book belonged to Robert Chelmyngton, a Christ Church monk whose name is on the sixty-first and last leaves.
p. 142. In 1377 was empowered with Robert de Bradgar, the Commissary general, to visit some of the Deaneries in place of the Abp. Sudbury.
p. 144. In 1386 a commission to visit and punish was issued by Abp. Courtenay to master William Blankpayn Canon of Wingham, Thomas Chillenden Prior of Ch. Ch. and master Robert Bradgar Commissary general of Canterbury.
Household servant of abp. Simon Sudbury (eg. Reg Sudbury (Lambeth) fo. 40v.) S.P.P. by 24 Aug. 1377. Sept. 1365 Ordained subdeacon. Reg. Sudbury (London) II. 36. Dec. 1365 Ordained deacon ibid. II.38. Feb. 1366 Ordained priest ibid II.40.
Folios 1 & 2. "Incipuint diversi tractatus penitencie in unum redacti secundum magistrum Robertum grossi capitis."
Folios 3. 4. Hic incipit tabula de summa sequente que vocatur Chabham et incipit sic "Cum suit miseraciones".
On folio 4b. and a few lines on 4a are "Statuta Bonefacii Archiepiscopi Cantuariensis" and other matter about tithes.
Then follow 92 folios containing the treatise of Thomas de Chabeham sub-dean of Salisbury. At the end two verses explicit expliceat ludere scriptor eat. qui scripsit carmen sit benedictus amen. This work is called Summa de penitencie casibus et ecclesiasticis officiis. in 7 books.
Following this, in fo. 94 lower half, the visitation articles of an Archbishop.
