Description | Sancti Augustini sermones de verbis Domini, cum indice praefixo. From the library of St Augustine's Abbey and written there. The table of sermons occupies the first 1 1/2 folios, misnumbered 1-93; on the second folio is the following title in capitals illuminated in blue, purple, red, and green:- INCIP' SERMO' SCI AUGUSTINI DE VERB(IS) EVANGELII SECUNDUM MATH(EUM) CAP(ITULU)M PR(IMUM) AGITE POENITENTIA(M) APPROPINQUAVIT ENIM REG NU(M) CAELORUM. Three initial letters have grotesque designs in their loops, the rest are simply coloured in blue, red, green, and purple. Insribed as belonging to William Kingsley in 1667. Illuminated initials at beginning of sections covering Matthew [fol 1v] Mark [fol. 39v] & Luke [fol. 54v]. Rough lead-pencil sketch (oxydised to a brownish-pink) fol. 51r in margin. Fine group of majuscule lettering fol 1r. |
