On the verso of the second fly-leaf at the beginning, is the following inscription:- "Liber iste est Magri Martini de Clyve Monachi ecclie Xpi Cant' quem perquisivit et eidem ecclie dedit. Et est scriptum satis bonum super quatuor libros sentenciar' qd composuit frater Hugo de Sco Claro de ordine predicator' dum parisyus legeret in theologia qui postea sce Romane ecclie fact' est Cardinalis". Martin de Clyve died 1300 (Cawston's Obituary, D. 12).
This volume is number 1597 of Eastry's list (see James, Ancient Libraries, pp. 132, 511); it is also mentioned in Echard's Scriptores Ordinis Praedicatorum, Paris.
Ker, in Medieval Manuscripts, p268, describes it as probably written in Paris. Belonged to Canterbury Cathedral Priory, to Martin de Clyve, monk.
This volume was copied through the pecia system of book production (Murano, no. 484), with pecia marks occuring ff. 14ra (finit IX, incipit X), 32ra (pe<cia>), 35rb (.p. dono), 42ra (corpus pe<cia> ), 45rb (quia ubi p<ecia> ), 51rb (boni p<ecia> ), and 54rb (.p.<ecia> ).
