| Description | Of Walter de Meysam that he does not intend to contest a case brought against him by John de St Giles in the Court of Canterbury. This case, over the church of Lamyatt So, is probably the same as that which had begun before the Court of Canterbury sede plena between the same two parties [see Select Cases p63], apparently on appeal from the bishop of Bath and Wells. The exceptions mention the libel John had brought before Hugh de Mortimer, sometime official of Canterbury. [Not dated. Probably from the 1270-3 vacancy period: postdates Mortimer's spell as official (up to 1270); an entry in ES Roll 14, a 'Court of Canterbury Roll' sede vacante, shows John and Walter being cited to appear before the Court on 1 Dec 1270. These exceptions could have been produced at that or subsequent sessions.] |
