| Description | [Of Robert, rector of Braunston Np, for a case over tithes in the Court of Canterbury against the abbess and nuns of Elstow Bd]. Depositions by: Henry Sowel of Braunston; Richard Plect of Braunston; John, son of Amice de Braunston; Nicholas Cissor of Braunston; *John Fraunceys of Braunston; William, son of John Amic' de Braunston; John, son of John son of Adam; Ingram de Braunston; John de Chimmining of Braunston; John, son of Ralph de Falkeclive of the parish of Braunston. [Witnesses from * to the end examined on 6 Apr 1291. The text before this point is of an earlier examination, beginning at some intermediate point: this roll has no heading and stitch holes at the top show that it once formed part of a larger document. References in the text to 'Brother Robert, the second witness', who may be identified with the Brother Robert de Stamford, monk of Newstead, the second witness in ES Roll 55, show however that this examination and the examination contained in ES Roll 55 were conducted on the basis of the same articles. It is possible, then, that ES 55 was originally part of the same roll as ES 311, although there would have been at least one membrane separating them, now lost. The date, finally, of the examination of the witnesses before the * above may be said to have been the same as that recorded in ES 55, ie 25 Jan 1291.] |
