| Description | From: Thomas, prior of St Sepulchre's Priory, Warwick; Mgr Richard de Lun' To: Robert son of Thorkill
[Document faded in places. Some areas of text illegible.] They have received the commission of Hubert Walter, archbishop of Canterbury (recited). Hugh Gem' had had informed him that he had been brought before the bishop of Coventry to answer Robert concerning a loan ('summa pecunie mutua'). Robert claimed that he had given Hugh the money but Hugh said that he had not received it. Both parties brought witnesses to prove their statements. Robert appealed to the archbishop, who set a date of Easter for the appeal, and Hugh asked for a postponement until 30 Nov. Thomas and Richard are to hear and determine the case. Thomas and Richard cite Robert to appear before them on 21 Dec in the parish church of Stoneleigh ('stanleia') [Warwickshire]. 'Walter de Renton'' at end of document. No date. [Date: as in Donahue, cited below.] |
