| Description | From: Anselm, archbishop of Canterbury To: [Samson], bishop of Worcester
Samson is to act towards Thomas [II], archbishop-elect of York, in accordance with Anselm's mandate to Thomas (recited). Anselm has suspended Thomas from exercising priestly office until he abandons his rebellion against the church of Canterbury and professes submission as Thomas [I] and Gerard, his predecessors, did. If Thomas persists, Anselm forbids all the bishops of Britain, under pain of anathema, to promote him to the episcopate or to receive him as a bishop or in any Christian fellowship if he obtains this promotion from bishops abroad. Anselm forbids Thomas to accept consecration as archbishop of York without making a profession of obedience to Canterbury, under pain of anathema. If Thomas relinquishes the archbishopric, Anselm will allow him to exercise the priestly office to which he has already been admitted. No date. [Date: as in Frohlich, cited below.]
