| Description | From: Leoline Jenkins, DD, commissary general of Canterbury
The nuncupative will of William Somner [junior] of Canterbury Cathedral precincts, gent, dated 30 Mar 1669, was proved before William Lovelace, MA, Jenkins' surrogate, by the oaths of John Bale, MD, Leonard Brown, alderman of the city of Canterbury, and John Somner, gent, who attested to the will, and Barbara Somner, the testator's widow. John Somner declined to act as executor and administration was granted to Barbara. Signature of Henry Vaughan, registrar, at end of document. Recites the will (in English). Bequests of a house and garden in St Margaret's parish, Canterbury, a house at Chartham and money, including money owed to him by Mr Vaughan, who is to succeed him as registrar of the consistory court of Canterbury. Bequests to: William, his son by Barbara; his son John; his daughters Elizabeth Somner and Ann, wife of Richard Pising, goldsmith; Mr Stockar, minister of St Alphege's church, Canterbury; Mr John Tilleson, servant to the dean of Canterbury. Bequests to the poor. Residue of his goods to be divided equally between his wife and children. If Richard Pising lives to return to Canterbury and practise his trade, Ann's legacy shall be void. He appoints his brother, John Somner, as his executor.
