The prior's predecessors had the right to enter the messuage now of William in the suburbs of Canterbury next to 'Pollardeswalle' whenever necessary to dig up and repair their underground leaden watercourse ('conductus') which runs across the messuage. The messuage lies in St Mary Northgate parish with the messuage of the prior of St Gregory's Priory to east, a garden of the prior of St Gregory's Priory to north, the king's highway to south and the messuage of Christina daughter of Christina vysshere to west. William has unjustly prevented the prior's servants ('minister') from doing this, contrary to certain deeds and other evidence. To prevent this happening in future, William grants that each time access to the watercourse is prevented a penalty of 6s 8d shall be levied from the messuage before the bailiffs of Canterbury and paid to the cathedral priory's treasurer, with a payment of 2s to the bailiffs as an amercement. After the watercourse has been dug up, repaired and relaid, the treasurer shall cause the walls of the messuage that were demolished so that the work could be carried out to be repaired at his own costs within 15 days, on penalty of a payment of 6s 8d to be levied from the prior's goods by the bailiffs to the use of the tenant of the messuage. The priory also grants William 2 pieces of land in St Paul's Canterbury parish, of which one is 52 feet long and 20 feet wide, lying with William's tenement to north, the tenement of Robert Hunte to south, the priory's land to east and Ruttington Lane ('venella vocata Throtyntone') to west, and the other is 37 feet long and 36 feet wide and lies with the priory's land to south, the land of the heirs of John Coltherde to north, William's tenement to west and the land of the heirs of Robert atte Crouche to east. For a term of 60 years. For an annual payment of 16d, payable as specified in the priory's treasury at Canterbury. Right of distraint in William's messuage in Ruttington Lane ('venella de Throtynton'') where he lives and the said he lives and the 2 pieces of land if payment in arrears. Priory's part of indenture.
