DescriptionFrom: Herlewin, I, prior of Canterbury Cathedral Priory; the convent of Canterbury Cathedral Priory

The dispute between the priory and Roger of Tofts concerning the church of Bircham Tofts [Norfolk] has been settled. Roger, in the presence of Richard of Dover, archbishop of Canterbury, and others, acknowledged that William de Turba, late bishop of Norwich, at Roger's request, granted the church of Bircham Tofts to the priory in perpetual alms and confirmed it by his charter. For the sake of peace, the priory has granted to Roger that it will receive suitable vicars presented to the church by him and present them to the bishop of Norwich to be instituted. The vicar shall pay the priory an annual pension of 4s as specified. The priory will never demand more than this pension of the church and will never assign the pension to anyone outside its church or present any vicar to the bishop of Norwich to be instituted except one presented by Roger. Nor shall Roger present anyone unless he has been accepted by the priory. Roger agrees to observe this compromise. No date. [Date: Prior Herlewin's dates.]
