Roger is bound to John in £40 by a statute staple dated 15 Nov 1448, payable as specified. Henry, lord ('Dominus') le Bourghcher, Roger Chambreleyn', Richard Waldegrave and Robert Corbet, knights, and John Doreward, John Clopton', Richard Wedirton', John Martyn' and John Archer, esqs, have, by a deed dated 14 Nov, granted John Arundell, Edmund Brudenell', John Howden, clerk, John Mildenhale, William Clon' and John Gardyner an annual payment of 40s, payable as specified in the church of St Thomas Acon, London, for the manor of 'Thurghton Hall' [unidentified], Suffolk, and a penalty of 10s whenever the payment is 15 days or more in arrears. If John Arundell, Edmund, John Howden, John Mildenhale, William and John Gardyner wish to amend the deed before 29 Sep, Roger, Richard Waldegrave, Robert, John Doreward, John Clopton', Richard Wedirton', John Martyn' and John Archer will amend it. If within 5 years of the date of this document Roger grants John Arundell, Edmund, John Howden, John Mildenhale, William and John Gardyner an estate in any lands in the vill ('villa') or parish of Windsor, Berkshire, or within 24 miles of it, to the annual value of 40s the statute staple is to be void. Provided that as soon as an estate in the lands in or near Windsor is granted the annual payment of 40s and the penalty of 10s shall cease. Roger's part of indenture.
