Walter is acting as guardian of spiritualties sede vacante because the see of Worcester is vacant by the death of Bishop William de Lynn. 'Dominus' William Hanleye, rector of Newington [Surrey] in the rural deanery of Croydon, and 'Dominus' John Wengrave, rector of Uley ('Iwele') [Gloucestershire] in the diocese of Worcester, wish to exchange benefices. The priory consents to the exchange. It authorizes Walter to investigate the reasons for it and, if they seem lawful, to receive William's resignation from Newington and admit and institute John, who has been presented to the church by King Edward III, patron because the temporalities of the archbishopric are in his hands during the vacancy. John's induction is reserved to the priory. Walter has investigated the reasons for the exchange and approved it. He has admitted and instituted John to Newington, having first received William's resignation, reserving his induction to the priory. Sealed with the seal of the officiality of Worcester sede vacante Given at Worcester [Worcestershire].
Endorsed with a note that this was done at Ickham on 26 Aug and a mandate to induct sent to the rural dean of Croydon and the vicar of Croydon in late 14th cent hand. |
