He has received the priory's letters dated 16 Mar at its chapter house (recited). 'Dominus' Stephen de Navesby, rector of Upper Hardres ('Magna Hardres'), Canterbury diocese, and 'Dominus' Thomas de Gobelcote, rector of Stanford le Hope [Essex], London diocese, wish to exchange their benefices. Hugh de Stafford, earl of Stafford, patron of Upper Hardres, has presented Thomas de Gobelcote to the benefice and the priory has inquired into the presentation and sends Thomas de Baketon a copy of its findings. The priory consents to the exchange, orders Thomas de Baketon to discuss the reasons for it and empowers him to admit and institute Thomas de Gobelcote to the benefice of Upper Hardres, having first obtained Stephen's resignation. Thomas de Baketon approves the exchange, has received Stephen's resignation and has admitted and instituted Thomas de Gobelcote to the church of Hardres. Given at London. |
