Description | From: George Hall, DD, bishop of Chester and archdeacon of Canterbury To: Peter du Moulin junior, DD, vice dean, canon and prebendary of Canterbury Cathedral; Peter Hardres, canon and prebendary of Canterbury Cathedral
The see of Canterbury is vacant by the death of William Juxon, the last archbishop, and the dean and chapter, with the king's permission, have elected Gilbert Sheldon, bishop of London, as the next archbishop. George Morley, bishop of Winchester, William Peirs, bishop of Bath and Wells, Robert Skinner, bishop of Oxford, John Warner, bishop of Rochester, Humfrey Henchman, bishop of Salisbury, Benjamin Laney, bishop of Lincoln, Seth Ward, bishop of Exeter, and John Earle, bishop of Worcester, by authority of letters patent issued by King Charles II, have confirmed the election and committed the spiritualities to Gilbert. They have commanded the archdeacon to induct, install and enthrone the archbishop-elect or cause him to be inducted, installed and enthroned. The archdeacon is unable to carry out these duties in person and therefore grants Peter and Peter power to induct, install and enthrone the archbishop-elect. Sealed with the seal of the archdeaconry of Canterbury. |
