Because the see of Canterbury was vacant by the death of Walter Reynolds, late archbishop, the priory decided to proceed to elect a new archbishop by delegates ('via compromissi'). The seven delegates have unamimously chosen Mgr Simon Meopham, DTh, canon of Chichester. Sealed with the seal of the chapter.
