Description | From: Andrew de Podiobomcio, rector of St Mary-le-Bow church, London; John de Ros, rector of St Mary Aldermary church, London To: Henry of Eastry, prior of Canterbury Cathedral Priory; the chapter of Canterbury Cathedral Priory They have received the priory's mandate dated 29 Dec 1327 at Canterbury (recited). The priory has heard that Mgr Geoffrey de Eyton', official of the court of Canterbury sede vacante, has died and claims the right to prove his testament under its sede vacante jurisdiction. It therefore commands Andrew and John to sequestrate Geoffrey's goods in London and keep them until they hear further. They went to the inn ('hospicium') in the parish of St Mary Aldermanbury, London, where Geoffrey lived and died, met his executors and explained why they were there. The executors said that there were no goods belonging to Geoffrey there and, if he had any in London, they would be in St Paul's Cathedral. Andrew and John then went to the dean and chapter of St Paul's and explained why they were there. Mgr Richard de Grene, treasurer, and 'Dominus' John de Middleton, canon, on behalf of the dean and chapter, told them that the priory had made an agreement with the bishop of London about appointing an official of the court of Canterbury sede vacante and that procedure had been followed. Because Geoffrey was their fellow canon and died in London, they claim probate of his testament and have already proved it. Finally Andrew and John inquired whether Geoffrey had any goods within the jurisdiction of St Mary-le-Bow, but found nothing. They have therefore not been able to execute the mandate. Sealed with the seal of the officiality of London and the notary [both no longer present.] Notarial attestation and sign of Gilbert of Ludgarshall ('Lutegarshale'), clerk, of Salisbury diocese, notary public, who wrote the document. Given at London.
