TitleLetter
Date31 May 1293
DescriptionFrom: Robert Winchelsey, archdeacon of Essex
To: Henry of Eastry, prior of Canterbury Cathedral Priory

He received the prior's letter dated 21 Mar at Canterbury on 25 Apr by Mgr John le Here. He is concerned about the prior's health and puzzled by his reference to the Pharisees ('Pharisei'). There is no more progress in choosing a pope, although he has been told that if there is not a new pope soon his business may be dealt with. He hope that negotiations with the bishop of Winchester about raising a loan on the tithes, about which he has written to the prior twice, are making good progress. He has recently written to the bishop about it. [Document damaged. Several small areas of text illegible.]
