To: the prior of Canterbury Cathedral Priory

John Pikenot, who has served the priory's delgation faithfully, urgently needs to return to England, having first sought and obtained permission. Robert wrote to the prior at Whitsun by 'Dominus' Thomas, rector of Mersham, about their state, the state of the curia and other matters and so is not writing much now, although the prior may obtain more information from John and Ralph de Lectone, Robert's groom ('valetus'), who is also returning home on urgent business.

Endorsed with address and name of sender, followed by 'dd' 'dd', and note that the document was received on 31 Oct in late 13th cent hands.
