Description | From: Henry III, king of England To: Gregory IX, pope The messengers from Canterbury Cathedral Priory have recently returned from the papal curia with their business there unfinished. The priory has obtained the king's permission to elect an archbishop and the subprior and convent have unanimously chosen John de Sittingbourne, I, their prior. The king has consented to the election. He informs the pope and asks him to accomplish it. Sent patent. Given at Marlborough [Wiltshire].
