Party: the prior and chapter of Canterbury Cathedral Priory

An agreement has been reached between the parties concerning the exercise of jurisdiction while the see of Canterbury is vacant following the translation of Robert Kilwardby, late archbishop, as cardinal-bishop of Porto and Santa Rufina [Roma, Italy].
Procedure for appointing an official, who shall be approved by the bishop of London. If there is no bishop of London, the nominations shall be sent to the bishop of Winchester, if there is no bishop of Winchester, to the bishop of Worcester, and, if there is no bishop of Worcester, to the next bishop. Scope of the official's jurisdiction defined. Provisions about the official suspending bishops or placing them under interdict. Provisions for confirmation of bishops-elect and consecration of bishops. Procedure for appointing a replacement if the official is unsuitable or dies or leaves. The parties renounce all appeals, remit all actions and expenses and annul all sentences of suspension, interdict or excommunication that have arisen because of this dispute. Indenture made in two parts, because of the absence of some of the parties and the distance, one part sealed with the priory's seal to remain with John and the other sealed with his seal and the seals of the other bishops to remain with the priory. Names of John, Robert, Godfrey, Stephen, William, William and Thomas on plica
Given at London.
