DescriptionFrom: Thomas Goldstone, IV, prior of Canterbury Cathedral Priory
To: Elizabeth, late wife of John Northewode, gent, deceased, mother of Joan Northwode and Elizabeth Northwode, John's daughters and heirs; Edward Chamberleyn', gent, friend and kinsman of Joan and Elizabeth Northwode, daughters and heirs of John Northwode, gent, deceased; Edmund Marten', gent, friend and kinsman of Joan and Elizabeth Northwode, daughters and heirs of John Northwode, gent, deceased; Edward Hante, gent, friend and kinsman of Joan and Elizabeth Northwode, daughters and heirs of John Northwode, gent, deceased

The manor of Selgrave contains 282 acres. One moiety of the manor belongs to the prior and the convent of Canterbury Cathedral Priory and the other to Joan and Elizabeth. The lands have never been partitioned and the priory's farmers have usually occupied the whole manor and paid a farm to John and his ancestors, causing disputes between the priory and Joan and Elizabeth's ancestors, and it is therefore thought advisable to divide the lands. The priory is to have 'Northefeld', containing 85½ acres and 20 perches and 'Readfeld', containing 55 acres and 20 perches. Joan and Elizabeth are to have 'Stumbelfeld'', containing 105 acres and 1 rood, 21 acres of land lying in 'Selgravefeld'' with the garden late of John Barett' to east, and another 6 acres in the same field with the garden to west, and 'piribrome', containing 5½ acres and 26 perches. Elizabeth Northewode senior, Edward Chamberleyn', gent, Edmund Marten', gent, and Edward Hante are acting for Joan and Elizabeth junior because they are under age and in their mother's guardianship. No date. [Date: date of original.] Original dated 20 Sep 1503.
