Description | From: John Ousthorp', abbot of Selby Abbey To: the prior and the convent of Durham Cathedral Priory
[Document damaged. Some text lost on right side.] The last provincial chapter of the Benedictine order in England, held at Northampton, appointed John to visit houses in the province of York which do not have their own visitors and he intends to visit Durham on 2 May, either in person or by his commissary. He cites the prior and convent to appear in their chapter house on that day and any other days necessary to continue the proceedings to receive whatever the office of visitation requires and commands them to forewarn their fellow monks of the visitation. They are to certify to what they have done and send a list of the names of all the monks, both present and absent. Dated 1 Apr, year lost but supplied from endorsement. Given at Selby Abbey [Yorkshire].
Endorsed with a note that the citation was received received by William [Ebchester], prior of Durham Cathedral Priory, in his low chamber ('Bassa Camera') on 5 Apr 1447. |
