Description | From: Pope Boniface VIII To: the dean of St Paul's Cathedral, London; the precentor of St Paul's Cathedral, London; the provost of Wingham College The abbot and convent of Bec Abbey have shown the pope that William, rector of Saltwood, brought a case against them concerning an annual pension before the official of the chapter of Canterbury Cathedral Priory, the see being vacant. The archbishop subsequently entrusted the case to Mgr Robert de Ros, canon of St Paul's Cathedral, London, who decided in the abbey's favour. William appealed against the sentence to the archbishop but the archbishop's official has not passed sentence, although more than a year has elapsed, to the abbey's great prejudice. The pope has sent a mandate to the official, commanding him to pass sentence within 3 months. If he does not act, the pope will remove the case to London to be settled. The addressees are to enforce their decision and compel witnesses to testify using ecclesiastical censure. G de Setia on plica at right. Given at St Peter's Rome [Roma, Italy].
