Description | From: Edward III, king of England To: the prior and convent of Canterbury Cathedral Priory King Edward II gave the priory licence to acquire lands, tenements and rents to an annual value of £20 for the maintenance of 7 chaplains to celebrate mass each day in the chapel of St Thomas next to the priory gate [in the almonry] for the souls of himself, his ancestors and all the faithful departed, the statute of mortmain not withstanding. The king, wishing his father's grant to be given due effect, has given Henry Longechaump' licence to grant the manor of Stisted, which he holds of the priory at farm for an annual payment of £16. The manor is worth 40s annually, as valued by William Trussel', escheator south of the Trent. The grant is valued at 50s a year, in part satisfaction of the £20. Sent patent. The clerk is Scarle.
