Description | From: Stephen, king of England
Addressed to the archbishop of Canterbury and the king's justices, sheriffs, barons, servants ('Minister') and faithful men of Essex. The king confirms the agreement made between the prior and convent of Canterbury Cathedral Priory and Matilda of Saint-Saens ('Sanctus Sidonius'), by a chirograph, by which she received the priory's manor of Stisted at farm. Matilda received the manor on condition that she should pay the priory an annual farm of £10 and should not hold it in fee or by inheritance, so that after her death her husband, heirs and relations should not have a claim to it but it should remain part of the priory's demesne. The king wishes this condition to remain inviolate. No date. [Date: as in Regesta Regum Anglo-Normannorum, cited below.] Given at Canterbury.
