DescriptionParty: John de Newenton'
Party: Stephen Coleman of 'la Feye'

John grants Stephen custody of all lands and tenements which fell by inheritance to John, son and heir of Stephen Godefrey, of the fee of John de Newenton' belonging to the manor of Southchurch, together with the marriage and wardship of John son of Stephen Godefrey, except for dower for Emma Godefrey, the heir's mother. Stephen is to hold the lands, wardship and marriage until the heir reaches 21. For this Stephen has paid 40s. If Agnes Godefrey, the heir's grandmother, or Emma Godefrey, his mother, dies within the term, Stephen Coleman may have the lands, wardship and marriage with all profits arising from them until the heir comes of age, except that he shall have the rent from the tenements which were of Stephen Godefrey and John de Newenton' shall have all other profits issuing from the tenements within the term. Stephen Coleman shall keep all the lands without destruction and waste and shall make all the services and customs owed for the lands to the manor of Southchurch to John de Newenton'. Possibly Stephen's part of indenture. [Seal device suggests it belongs to John.]
