5 acres of land called 'Clateresland' in Southchurch parish, lying with Walter's land to west, the land of Alan son of Ralph le Mouner to east, Richard's marsh to south and the land late of Martius of Southchurch to north. Condition against tenure by religious men or Jews. For an annual payment of a quarter of wheat as specified, payable as specified in the chapel of St Katherine the Virgin in the hall of Southchurch by the view of the chaplain there and the serjeant ('serviens') of the same place, to make bread for alms to be distributed to the poor as specified. If Walter and Emma default on the payment, they shall give 4 lbs of wax as an amercement ('misericordia'), payable as specified, and shall not pay the wheat. For each day that they default on the payment, they shall pay 4 lbs of wax and shall not pay the wheat. The chaplains are to receive the wheat unless they commit an offence ('transgressio') and if they are convicted they shall give 2 lbs of wax for St Katherine's light and shall be quit and not give any other amercement. Richard has caused any who oppose or disturb the gift or alms to be excommunicated. For this Walter and Emma have also paid 100s as a gersum fine. The grant is made for Richard's soul, the souls of Richard his father, Joan his mother, John de Burgo, Hugh de Burgo and the souls of all Christians and the honour of God, the Virgin Mary and St Katherine.
