Description | From: Richard of Southchurch To: Juliana daughter of the late Richard le Neweman of Southchurch Richard quitclaims to Juliana for all claim he has in her person, so that she and her descendants and their descendants are quit of all demand with regard to him ('exactio ...versus me') and he cannot demand any service or payment of her or her children unless it is of their free will or in accordance with the free custom of England. Richard also grants her a messuage and 7 acres of land which Thomas le Neweman held in the vill ('villa') of Southchurch and surrendered to his lord in his full court, lying with Richard's land to south and the king's highway which goes from Shoebury to Hadleigh to north. He also grants her another 7 acres lying with the marsh of Walter le barun' to south and the 7 acres to north. Which 14 acres also lie with the land of Lettice late wife of William Bos and the land of Bartholomew of Mucking to east and the lane which goes from the king's highway to Richard's marsh to west. For an annual payment of 8 lbs of wax ('cirra'), payable as specified at the lord's chapel in the court ('curia') of Southchurch. The grant is made to Juliana for life and after her death the lands shall revert to Richard. No date. [Date: handwriting and witnesses to other Southchurch charters.]
