Description | Party: John de Sittingbourne, I, prior of Canterbury Cathedral Priory Party: Joan, widow of Richard of Southchurch When Richard died, Joan, together with knights and prudent men ('vir discretus'), asked the priory to grant her the wardship ('custodia') of Richard's heir with the land of Southchurch. Although the prior is entitled to keep this wardship himself, he has, with the advice of his brothers, granted it to Joan until the heir reaches the age of 16. Joan is not to marry the heir to anyone without the prior's consent and is not to sell, waste or take anything from the wood, except for the reasonable maintenance ('sustentatio') of the house.
