John is to cause James's letters patent dated 6 Jun 1607 at Greenwich (recited) to be made under the seal of the Duchy of Lancaster.
The letters patent state that in consideration of the surrender by the dean and chapter of Ripon Collegiate Church of all the property granted to them by the king's letters patent dated 2 Aug 1604, the king grants them an annuity of £347, issuing from the prebends of Stanwick, Thorpe, Sharrow, Nunwick, Givendale, Monkton and Studley, all in Yorkshire, the money called 'the Common and Divident money' which formerly belonged to the collegiate church of St Wilfred, Ripon, the tithes of Ripon, Pateley Bridge and Grantley in Yorkshire, 'the Treasury Tithes' within Ripon parish and various chantries in churches in or near Ripon as specified, payable as specified by the king's receiver general of Yorkshire and the receiver of the Duchy of Lancaster. Right of distraint if payment in arrears. The king also grants the dean and chapter St Wilfred's Collegiate Church, Ripon, the site of Ripon College, the court called 'the Common Fee Court' in Ripon and all profits of the court, 4 messuages in Ripon lying near the college, formerly belonging to the prebendaries ('Prebend'') and all lands known as 'the Fabrique Lands or Rents', not exceeding £7, the rectory and vicarage of Nidd, and the wood called 'Rizawood'? for the repair of the church. The king also grants the dean and chapter ecclesiastical and probate jurisdiction within the parish and liberties of Ripon and all fees for baptisms, marriages, burials and mortuaries within Ripon parish. In addition to the 6 prebendaries named in the king's previous letters patent, there shall be a sub-dean and the king appoints John Favoure, doctor of laws and theology, to this post. Provisions for the appointment of future sub-deans. The archbishop of York is to induct the dean, sub-dean and prebendaries. The king appoints Edward Wright, MA, to the next prebend that falls vacant. He appoints Daniel Fowler, son of Moses Fowler, dean of Ripon, to a prebend when one falls vacant after he has obtained a degree in arts. Details on appointing new prebendaries. The king grants the archbishop of York the advowson of all prebendaries and canons of Ripon. The archbishop of York is to be visitor of the College.
