DescriptionFrom: Thomas de Ringmere, prior of Canterbury Cathedral Priory; the chapter of Canterbury Cathedral Priory

Recites the inspeximus and confirmation of Archbishop Theobald, dated 1 Sep 1145 at Canterbury. This in turn recites the grant of Gundulph, bishop of Rochester, dated 1091, no month.
Gundulph grants various tithes to Rochester Cathedral Priory for the monks' food. The tithes are the gift of the king [William II], Ansgot, Godric, Robert de Sancto Amando, Ernulf, Godric, Jocelin ('Goscelinus'), Smalemann of Shorne, William de Clovile, Alolch, Ernulf, Ansgot of Chislehurst, Hamo Maminot, William son of William of Horsmonden ('Horsburden''), William de Gurnay, Ralph the butler ('pincerna') and Gundulph. Payable from the king's demesnes in Strood, Chalk, the tenement of Wulward Henri ('cognomentus Henri') in Hoo St Mary parish, Cobham, Great Delce and Little Delce ('Delce Major et Minor') [both in Rochester], Nashenden ('Nessenden'') [in Rochester], Borstal [in Rochester], Henhurst [in Cobham], Randall ('Rundale') and Thong ('Thange') [both in Shorne], Oakleigh ('Ocle') [in Higham], Chelsfield, Farnborough ('Farbergh''), Mottingham ('Modingeham'), Berry ('Bertreye') [in Cudham], 'Crongebur'' [Crombury in Hadlow?], the vill ('villa') of 'Erdinton'' (unidentified), 'Westbrok'' in Cooling parish ('Culing''), and the fees of Gundulph's bishopric, namely from the tenement of Hugh of Stoke and Geoffrey of Sundridge ('Sunderesse') in Cuxton ('Cukelstan'') and Richard de Beresse in Southfleet ('Sufflete'). The monks are also to retain the tithes from the young of animals and their agriculture from their manors of Frindsbury, Denton ('Denintona') and Southfleet within Rochester diocese. The grant is made for the honour of God and St Andrew and for Gundulph's soul and the souls of his successors who approve his deed ('factum'), so that a mass for the dead shall be sung on the anniversary of the death of each of his successors. Anathema clause. Witness list.
Theobald confirms Gundulph's grant. His inspeximus can take the place of the original if it perishes through age. He also confirms Gundulph's anathema clause. Witness list.
The priory confirms Gundulph's grant and Theobald's confirmation.
Given at the chapter house of Canterbury Cathedral Priory.
