Description | Party: Roger de la Lee, prior of Canterbury Cathedral Priory; the chapter of Canterbury Cathedral Priory Party: Geoffrey son of Alexander An inquisition has been made concerning lands in Monks Risborough manor which have been let without the priory's consent. In particular, the priory sent its proctors to inquire about 10 acres of land which Geoffrey held without having obtained the chapter's consent. Geoffrey sought the priory's pardon ('gratia') and at length obtained it, so that henceforth he and his heirs shall possess the lands with the priory's consent, provided he does not depart from any of the customs, works and other services belonging to the land. For this Geoffrey has paid £4 6s 8d. Made in the form of a chirograph, one part to remain in the priory's treasury at Canterbury, the other with Geoffrey. Given at Canterbury. Seal incorrectly identified by Sheppard as Prior Robert Hathbrande.
Endorsed 'Risberghe' in late 13th cent hand. |
